Questions and Answers!

You've got questions? Well, we've got answers!

If you have any concerns or questions about what's going on around campus, feel free to drop us a line or write a comment card in our drop box in the student lounge.

Concerns:

Cleanliness of CIC downstairs common area, East Building stairwell in the corner of the commons (by Magic Bean), and East Building stairwell across from The Bookie.
Per the custodial manager, the commons in the CIC is scheduled to be cleaned (tables and floors) 3 times per week. Both stairwells in the East Building are to be cleaned twice per week.

While there will be times when areas on the campus seen unclean, the custodial crew has scheduled times to keep the campus clean.

Get additional parking for motorcycles. The current parking situation for them is cramped.
ASWSUTC recognizes the need for more motorcycle parking. We have discussed this issue with the Administration and steps are being made to add more parking. We appreciate the Administration for their understanding, and we want all students to know that we will advocate for your needs.

The removal of Scientific Journals from the library.
  • The majority of journals were owned by the Hanford technical library
  • Usage has dropped significantly and most of the journals articles can be found online
As for the journals not found online, the library staff has a list of journals which are locked and can only be accessed by the HTL Staff (which is on-site to retrieve the journal).

The WSUTC Faculty was asked to identify journals which related to courses held at WSUTC. 28 were identified, of those 28, 4 were retained (others are available online through WorldCat or other online journal databases).

All journals which are available via interlibrary loan were also removed from the campus library
  • These journals are typically available 48-72 hours after the request has been made
  • There is no cost to the students for interlibrary loaned books and journals
The staff has access to a list of all the journals available in a locked room. This will allow students to review journals titles which relate to the field being researched. Currently the library is renovating the catalog system for both journals and books, which means an item may show availability on the catalog, but my not actually be available on site anymore.

The journal catalog system is projected to be accurate Oct. 1, 2010. The book catalog system will take a little longer because the “cleaning out” is happening now, but the library suspects to have the catalog updated within the next couple of months (basically by Spring Semester).

Note: The books being removed have not been checked out for close to 10 years.
